Deprecate the pkg subdirectory

Kevin Daudt requested to merge deprecate-pkg into master

Having an extra subdirectory does not add any value and just increases the import path length.

The packages have been moved to the root, but aliases have been left behind for backwards compatibility. The next minor version, this will be removed.
