gnome-software-plugin-apk acting unreliable: call for help
Package Information
- Package name: gnome-software-plugin-apk
- Package version: 0.14.0
- Alpine version: edge
- Alpine architecture: x86_64
Summary
Since the last update to GNOME Software 47 and the plugin version 0.14.0, I have bumped into several problems with GNOME Software failing to upgrade the APK packages, and not providing feedback on the UI on success and failure. Same is happening with uninstalling packages, it just simply seems to not work.
I am writing this as a call for help for somebody to step in and work on it. I have been single-handedly working on APK's GNOME Software stack since Cogitri started to step down. Last time Cogitri had a look at one of my MRs in https://github.com/Cogitri/gnome-software-plugin-apk was in Jan 2023, and last time he committed was in March 2022. Unfortunately, right now I don't really have time to work on this myself alone. So if there's anybody else interested in GNOME Software and the great user experience it provides nowadays when the APK plugin works well, then it might be the time to step up. I am happy to provide guidance developing, testing, and finding bugs in the GNOME Software stack, as well as doing review. But I really need somebody to put the hours I cannot put nowadays, if we want it to continue working great. Let me know if you're willing to be the person to save this project!
Steps to reproduce
Have some apk updates pending, try to upgrade or uninstall APK things with GNOME Software, and see that nothing happens.
