GCC aborts with illegal instruction
This is Alpine Linux 18.x running on a 32-bit dual-core PIII-based system. The original install of gcc worked, but after updating the system (many months ago now) gcc stopped working. I assumed the problem would go away again the next time the package was updated, but I just updated to version gcc-13.2.1_git20231014-r0 I suspect that gcc was compiled for systems with SSE instructions.
$ gcc
Illegal instruction
My recollection is that a number of other programs broke as well but I reverted to older packages.
If no longer supporting 32-bit pre-SSE processors is a policy decision, that's fine. If this is a regression and the intent is that Alpine Linux continue to work on such processors, then this report is about some problems.
As part of this same issue, there does not seem to be a definitive statement about the minimum processor feature set needed for each release and variety of Alpine Linux. Further clarification in this regard would be welcome.
Thanks for listening. Any response would be appreciated.
