failed to load ldlinux.c32 because of outdated extlinux
i had spend some hours today to get a clue, why my manually partitioned alpine linux did not boot from 1gb flash ide disk.
i always got error "failed to load ldlinux.c32"
i found that it's because extlinux won't support ext4 64bit feature, which is setup by default in mkfs.ext4
after a long search i found a hint at:
https://wiki.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Filesystem#ext
and i disabled 64bit with -O ^64bit when formatting partition. that fixed the issue.
as 6.04-pre2 contains this fix:
https://wiki.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Syslinux_6_Changelog
Included in 6.04-pre2: * ext4: Support 64bit feature (Paulo Alcantara).
i'd like to know when alpine get's that update or if you could be so kind to update to 6.04-pre2
if update is not easily possible, i'd be happy if you could add a hint at https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Setting_up_disks_manually , as this would have avoided hours of search...
@ncopa , you seem to be maintainer, so i'm mentioning your in this ticket
