busybox-1.27.2-r7 awk is fishy
I have also seen this two months ago but did not look further.
It is the only awk that cannot:

It seems to have something to do with reverse solidus (backslash)
escaped sequences and maybe even the state machine, i have no idea. The
output is very different from the expected, anyway.
