makewhatis from man requires gawk, with busybox awk it silently fails
Makewhatis builds whatis database, used by apropos(1) and whatis(1). Makewhatis in man package is just shell script, it uses heavily awk. With Busybox awk it silently fails, resulting in empty /usr/share/man/whatis file. With gawk everything is fine.
Probably bug touches every version of Alpine Linux, where man package is available. Should we fix makewhatis to work with Busybox awk or just add gawk as another dependency to man?
