Updating to or installing latest Alpine 3.3.3 dissalows root loging over tty1 (in LXC)
Hi,
When updating a container from 3.2.3 (busybox 1.23.x) to 3.3.3 (busybox
1.24.1) breaks the root login on my LXC templates.
If I enter root as username I get no password prompt but a direct “Login
incorrect” error.
I can just login fine as another user.
tty1 (and others) are in /etc/securetty also root has a configured password and passwd has root not configured as /sbin/nologin:
cat /etc/passwd
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/ash
bin:x:1:1:bin:/bin:/sbin/nologin
[..]
cat /etc/securetty
console
dev/tty1
tty2
tty3
tty4
tty5
tty6
tty7
tty8
tty9
tty10
tty11
ls -l /dev/tty*
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 5, 0 Apr 27 14:30 /dev/tty
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Apr 27 14:30 /dev/tty1 ->lxc/tty1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Apr 27 14:30 /dev/tty2 ->lxc/tty2
This can also be reproduced (at least from me) when building a new Alpine Linux 3.3.3 image and using it with LXC.
lxc-attach works just fine, as I’d also have guessed.
After quickly skimming through changes form busybox I found no culprit
so I though of making this report here.
Do I miss something in my configuration or is this indeed a regression?
best regards,
Thomas
