Single User mode should mount root
Hi,
I know the init things have seen some work in the recent time, but there’s one bit that’s still kind of frustrating.
If you boot to single user mode, you’ll end up in the initrd without a
mounted root or anything else.
(much like if you give the emergency or rescue init flags on RHEL or LVM
maintenance mode on HP-UX)
The init exits very very early if “1” or “single” is given. There’s no difference between the two.
Common standard is to at least load device drivers(!!!) and also at
least mount root.
Well, actually, single user mode mounts all local filesystems
normally, but I’d be happy enough if I didn’t need to spend an hour to
re-learn Alpine’s init internals and then re-typing commands from them
just to, say, edit fstab.
I hope that makes some sense, tried to keep it short.
