Upgrade from 1.10.6 to 2.1.3 causes kernel modules to fail to load

Tonight I upgraded an Alpine Linux 1.10.6 hard drive based install to 2.1.3. I was upgraded first to 2.0.3 so that pg-restore could be used to back up the postgres db’s. Then, without rebooting, I next upgraded to 2.1.3. I then rebooted. On reboot, /etc/init.d/modules failed to run, because it couldn’t find af_something in modules.dep. Also, it failed to load the module for my inboard network card. Server is an HP ML350 g6. Also of note, cciss drivers didn’t seem to load, and the onboard raid partitions showed up as sda* instead of c0d0p*. Please let me know I extra information is needed.
