Request for package: linuxconsoletools
Wanted to make use of a serial mouse without creating xorg.conf.
The Problem: The X.Org Server ignores a mouse connected to the serial port. Xorg.0.log says:
(WW) Hotplugging is on, devices using drivers ‘kbd’, ‘mouse’ or ‘vmmouse’ will be disabled.
As a solution the mouse can be presented to the Linux kernel input subsystem with a command like
inputattach —mouseman /dev/ttyS0
With ‘inputattach’ from the Linux Console Project. See for instance ArchWiki:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/serial\_input\_device\_to\_kernel\_input for more information.
As a workaround include
Section “ServerFlags”
Option “AutoAddDevices” “False”
EndSection
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to disable hotplugging. (It is also useful to know the command ‘mouse-test’ from the package ‘gpm’ to find the correct mouse protocol for the InputDevice section in xorg.conf.)
