Booting alpine linux 3.14.0 from cdrom gives error: Mounting boot media failed
Booting alpine linux 3.14.0 from CDROM gives back error: Mounting boot media failed.
GRUB boots successfully into loaded kernel and initramfs. But kernel 5.10.43-0-lts wont find any device to mount.
In /proc/partitions
: only ram{0..15}
and sda
is mentioned. None of these contain any usable filesystem. sda
is the empty harddisk alpine is to install to.
Looking at the loaded kernel there seem drivers for cdrom, dvd and blueray media missing connected to the system by ide, sata or scsi drives.
Booting within VMware, Virtualbox, bhyve, KVM it is the same: all of them fail booting alpine 3.14.0: Mounting boot media failed. No device combination works. No device combination shows any bootable media device in /proc/partitions.
Replacing the kernel and initramfs on the downloadable images with some different self compiled kernel/initram-image makes alpine find its boot device -- but the squashfs does in this case not fit what is needed to do the install ...
