setup-interfaces: No WPA3 support / outdated wireless scanning tool
I have a router that uses WPA3, but when I run setup-interfaces, the script doesn't prompt me for a password and just writes
network={
ssid="MY_SSID"
key_mgmt=NONE
}
to wpa_supplicant.conf. Digging into the script, I found out that iwlist $iface scanning
in find_essids() shows "Authentification Suites (2) : PSK unknown (8)" with my wifi.
Apparently iwlist is an outdated piece of software which still uses the legacy Wireless Extensions of the Linux kernel[1]. The website of wireless-tools doesn't even load for me anymore.
It is generally recommended to use the newer tool iw, which also uses a newer kernel interface. Running iw $iface scan
outputs "* Authentification suites: PSK SAE" for my wifi, which indicates WPA3.
Could the package iw be moved to main and replace wireless-tools in the script?
